Download fromPC torrent client directly to Mede8er
« on: October 27, 2012, 06:05:45 PM »
Recently aquired the 1000x3D and as I have little hard disk space on my PC I want to download torrents with Vuze on my PC with the Mede8er as destination folder. It works well for short time intervals but after an hour or so the Mede8er shuts down or there is a problem with the connection PC to Mede8er.

I'm using the samba/network connection.

- How do I prevent the mede8er from shutting down?
- Is the samba option the most appropriate for this type of transfers?
- Could the problem be the standard modem/router from the cable company that I use?

Looking forward to your views on this.

Try downloading to the local disk, and then move the completed downloads to the Mede8er. There is an option in Vuze for this. And seeing as though you are running low on local disk space, you might want to set the options to download only 1 file at a time.

Thanks for the suggestion. Would not be a problem downloading to the local disc on the PC but I'm getting the same problem when Vuze tries to transfer the finished file to the X3D.

Would still be looking for a solution where the 1000X3D does not shut down the harddisk automatically or any alternative solution that let's me write to the X3D hardisk without interruptions.

THX, Thomas

So you  have turned off spin down and screensaver?  Try using Internet Radio to keep the x3 awake..you don't have to listen to it.

Is your X3 really shutdown (red led on the buttons) or is the lan connection gone?

How did you make the connection from your pc to the X3?
Are you using a network path shortcut in the torrent program to point the download to or do you use a mapped network drive letter?

Gents, apologies for the late reply. Just got back from holidays.

In terms of the X3 shutdown, yes, it does completely shutdown at a certain point (red led on buttons). I have not actually timed when it happens but my estimate would be around 2 hours or so.

The connection from pc to the X3 is through the Home WIFI Network. PC linked to WIFI, X3 cable connected to router..

I have currently set Vuze to download to
C:\Users\Public\Videos
and enables the function to transfer completed torrents to:
\\Med1000x3d\hdd1\Vuze Downloads

Hence, no mapped network drive letter.

Any suggestions how to keep the X3 on and available to receive finished downloads at all times? In the current set up this would imply the X3 will not receive any data or commands for hours but when the local torrent download is finished it should be connected.

Many thanks, Thomas

Why not torrent direct to the X3?   A large file will take an age to transfer..but you won't notice if each torrent gets sent across drip by drip.
