Need Help Setting Up Media Server on iMac to Mede8er
« on: March 03, 2013, 09:35:54 PM »
I wanted to get a Synology, but I already have an iMac and a Lacie 4Big Quadra that I keep running 24/7.  So what I'd like to do is set up my movie database on a partition on the Lacie, and use FreeNAS or some other software on the iMac to handle the media streaming via NFS.  Maybe using a Virtual Machine program?  Any suggestions?

Thanks.  So that would allow me to create NFS shares on my iMac that can be seen by my "streaming players".  I didn't realize I could do that with the iMac.  What if I want to be able to access my movies on my cell phone or ipad while traveling?  Or if I need transcoding?
