newb, need help, rips stuttering over wired network
« on: February 01, 2013, 12:44:48 AM »
Hello,
My setup is a windows 8 pc, with 4 mybook hard drives connected (3 via usb 3.0) directly to it and set to share through windows...question 1., what kind of share is this?  I replaced a boxee box with the mede8er as the boxee would drop HD audio, picture always played fine, and I was told it was the chip....got the m8, and actually my problems are worse, video will drop audio, then stutter....If I stop and start it will work briefly, then drop audio, then stutter....gets worse the longer the movie goes.  I have a long run of CAT 5E going from the PC to the m8....my internet goes through a comcast cable modem, to a gigabit wireless router, long run to the basement, then to a gigabit switch in the basement going to the mede8er, bluray, and xbox....I haven't done any special settings and know very little about networking.....any advice/suggestions on how to fix this is greatly appreciated...I think the boxee actually worked fine other than the hd/chip limitations, so not sure what the prob is here....thanks!!

Sharing your HD connect to usb might not be enough.
Im sure the Problem resides in your network And shares.

Do you have issues connecting the Hard Drives directly to mede8er?

Firstly, we wouldn't jump to  the conclusion that loss of audio  was a chip problem.  We would ask you  do  copy speed tests from PC to samba server. If those are poor, then your sure to have streaming issues.  If your  thoughput is too low, media chips spend too much time "locked" into  waiting for lan response, time that  can't be spent processing media.  The first thing to be dropped when CPU time is lost is the audio.

No, connecting a drive directly to the me8 appears to work, but would prefer to have a share that works, as I have 2 more locations I'd like to stream to

Thanks, don't know how to do what you suggested, but would be happy to try

When i mean sharing HD is when the Hard drive is connected to usb port from the pc .

Give a try to hanewin+ NFS like this user.
