issues connecting to Win XP pc via network
« on: January 27, 2013, 05:58:14 PM »
Hi all,

i'm afraid i l will need some help with the following. Just bought a 600X3D (no harddisk), with the following settings:
Firmware upgraded to 1.0.5. (11 jan 2013)
Network layout is as follows:
Modem connected to internet.
Behind the modem i have a netgear switch, which has: 1) TP-Link Access point, 2) Win XP PC (SP3) 3) MED600X3D

I have shared folder D:\Video's

When i try to access this folder via network, i can see the workgroup, and my PC.
However: wenever I try to go further, i'm prompted for a username/password.
Nothing works, i just get "logon fail".

I'm guessing the problem is in my PC, so i've tried the following:
- simple file sharing switched off
- Sharing permissions configured to Everyone (all access) and Guest (all access)
- Security set to full control for both Everyone and Guest
- Opened port 21 in McAfee firewall
- installed TCP/IPV6 protocol
- tried installing LLTD responder (which was not necessary because i have SP3)

Still no change in my problem. Any ideas what might help?

Thanks!

Try "simple file sharing" switch to on. Switch winXP firewall complete to off.
I use winXP SP3 with MED1000X3D and it works OK. MED has activated SAMBA process.

I can delete files in both directions. MED can remotely delete files on winXP-PC and winXP-PC can remotely delete files on MED.

OMFG, just turning off firewall was the key  :-[ lol

Is there a safer way by any chance?

Only thing is that accessing my videos folder takes a long time. Any ideas on this?

If your devices are in home network no firewall in PC is needed, only in router - crossing WAN to LAN.

"accessing my videos folder takes a long time" it can be problem with slow PC or too many files in "videos" folder.

Ok, thanks a lot.
I think it might be a combination of those.

Thanks again!
