Recently, I had to change laptops. My new laptop (Windows-10) cannot access (read/write) the files or subdirectories on the internal HD of my Med500X2. My old laptop (which is gone) could. Can someone please suggest a way to change the rights such that this works again? So far nothing I tried worked... [I posted a similar message some days ago, but it seems gone...]

Via Samba? Windows 10 has Samba1/CIFS disabled by default....to encourage users to move over to SMB2.
It can be turned on via Windows Features in Cintrol Panel /Software.

I have the impression that the Samba1-suggestion will not work. I haven't tried it yet (not at home), but all I can find on this issue is that I should just activate SMB1/CIFS and then old gadgets running this protocol should work again. But my laptop already has this switch active, so there is nothing to change. Or do I overlook something?

Are you saying the Med appears as a Network Store..but you cannot access the folders in it?

Yes! The MED appears fine as an external drive when I connect it directly with the blue cable to a USB-port on the laptop. I can even open the main directory and see the subdirectories (which contain the separate video's that I collected there). But I cannot open any of these subdirectories or copy them.

So you do not mean via Samba over the network , but directly connected as USb drive. It sounds like the NTFS journal file is corrupt and the disk has become write protected. Run chksdsk via tools. And do not use Safe Removal in the future. Use the recommended removal tool found in the X3D section.

I opened a cmd-box as administrator and gave the following command:

Now I tried to see if anything had changed.
I opened an Explorer window and managed to get into the drive d:.
There, I was allowed to open the main subdirectory where I wanted to go.
Subsequently, I was NOT allowed to enter the sub-sub-directory with the media-files that I wanted to access:
"You have been denied permission to access this folder. To gain access to this folder you will need to use the security tab"
Of course, I then clicked on the link to get into the security tab. This tab told me: "You must have Read permissions to view the properties of this object. Click Advanced to continue."
Next, I clicked on Advanced, which gave me: "You must have Read permissions to view the properties of this object. Click Continue to attempt the operation with administrative permissions."
Clicking on Continue gave me: "You do not have permission to view this object's security properties, even as administrative user. To try taking ownership of the object, which includes permission to view its properties, click Change above."
Clicking on Change gives me a menu where I have to specify:
- Object type
- Location
- Object name
The samples shown don't give me a clue on how to proceed. Preferably, I would like to regain access to my main directory and all its subdirectories in 1 go. Do you have a suggestion? Either on how to enter the desired specs in this last window, or on how to get the whole thing back under control again?
